What is the fake-detection course?
In short: A course for shop staff that teaches the checks behind an authentication opinion: print, rosette, card stock, weight and light, using the practice’s own reference material.
Most fakes are caught at the counter, before money changes hands, by someone who knows what to look at. This course teaches your staff the same checks I name on an authentication opinion sheet, so they know when to accept, when to decline and when to ask for a second opinion.
It is self-paced and priced per seat, quoted in writing. A consultation can be added to go through cards from your own shop.
The checks are the ones behind every authentication opinion: print pattern and rosette under magnification, card stock and layering, weight and thickness, and the light test, taught with the practice's own reference material. The aim is not to turn staff into appraisers. It is to make sure a doubtful card gets set aside instead of taken in on a hunch.
When a card still is not clear, the honest answer is a second opinion. An authentication opinion names each check and shows the photographs, and it can say inconclusive when the evidence does not settle it; see what if you can't tell?
