How long do you keep video and photos?
In short: Seven years. I hold every record to the same standard as medical records: break recordings are kept seven years from the date of the break, and photographs, condition sheets and custody logs seven years with the report they belong to.
As a medic, I kept records to medical standards, and I hold the practice's records to the same standard: seven years. That is also the record-keeping period USPAP expects for appraisal workfiles, and a break recording is the evidence behind every pack-fresh certificate and any later dispute, so it needs to last at least as long as the cards are likely to change hands.
These periods are initial. They will be confirmed with the practice's insurer, and any change is dated on the retention and consent policy. After the period ends, records are deleted on a schedule. You can also ask for earlier deletion of your own records.
